Have you ever been totally frustrated?  You are looking to start a website and have some good ideas for a name to use as a basis for your domain and email names.  There is only one problem - all your suggestions have already been taken.

This is the position I found myself in  when I started to think of setting up this website.  I wanted to focus on Genealogy but soon discovered that using the words "Genealogy" or "Genealogist" buried me under so many other people using those words on the web.

I felt that I would have to use something unique!  But what?  This was where I spent some time thinking and trying various ideas before getting to the point of saying to myself "Go for it."

Although not from Wales, I have spent 5 years learning Welsh, passing the Canolradd Examination (equivalent to ordinary level) and am continuing on with Advanced level studies.  During these years, I have used the Welsh language to uncover the facts about family history using written sources that have not been digitized to break down brick walls that are found in so many of our family history researches.

The word for "Genealogist" in Welsh is "Achwr".  Again, unfortunately this was not available.  My next thought was to add where I am living.  I live in the Wirral which has a long historical connection with Wales.  In Welsh it is known as Cilgwri.  Putting the two together results in either Y Achwr Gilgwri or Achwr y Cilgwri.  There is a very subtle difference between the two, the first being The Genealogist of the Wirral and the second The Wirral Genealogist.  Both express what I want to achieve both with this website and in other ways so the name was decided!
